A person dressed as a ninja and wielding a katana attacked special operations soldiers training in California, Stars and Stripes first reported after part of an incident report appeared on social media.
Early in the morning on Sept. 18, a US Army staff sergeant apparently with F Company, 2nd Battalion, 160th SOAR, was sitting outside an hanger administration building at Inyokern Airport smoking a cigarette when someone dressed in full ninja attire, including a sword, walked up to the soldier and asked, "Do you know who I am?" The soldier said no.
The mystery person then asked, "Do you know where my family is?"
When the soldier replied that he did not, the individual in the ninja costume became aggressive and started to slash at the soldier, striking his phone and knee, according to a short description of the event posted on Reddit.
A spokesperson with 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment told Task & Purpose that the incident report seen on Reddit is real.
The SSG ran, jumped a fence, and slipped inside the administration building, where he and a captain began locking all the doors and calling emergency services.
Ridgecrest Police Department records, as Stars and Stripes reported, confirmed some of the details, and US Army Special Operations Command said that the incident described in a document leaked on social media did, in fact, occur.
Police records show that a call came in around 1:20 am reporting that there was a "male [subject] in a ninja costume" carrying a sword in a parking lot on N. Airport Rd. at Inyokern Airport and there was at least one victim.
Another report came in about 20 minutes later from someone "hunkered down in a hanger wondering where help is," the records show.
The ninja banged on the doors and windows before leaving. The individual returned shortly thereafter and threw a large piece of asphalt through the window, injuring the unnamed captain.
The assailant eventually departed but was later arrested. Both the staff sergeant and the captain required stitches, but both were cleared to return to duty. The alleged attacker's identity and charges were unknown Friday.
