These high-tech gym socks may be perfectly designed

Most people face a crucial dilemma when they buy athletic socks. Do they want white socks? Or do they want black socks?

Allow me to simplify the dilemma even further: Neither is correct. If you're devoting any mental effort at all to sock-buying, you should've already bought multi-colored Bombas yesterday.

It's been two years since I shut the door on every gym sock except Bombas, an athletic sock with a combination of breathable cotton and a comfortable, slip-proof design. They're easily the best socks I've owned, athletic or otherwise, and I will evangelize them until the day I die or the world runs out of cotton, whichever comes first.

A little back story: Bombas first caught my eye when founders David Heath and Randy Goldberg first appeared on a season 6 episode of "Shark Tank."

This was September of 2014, about a year after I'd graduated college. So it stung to learn each pair cost $12 (which they still do, unless you buy in bulk). But I knew Christmas was coming up and that meant I had a chance to ask for the least cool, most clichéd, thing one can request during the holidays: socks.

Bombas

I'm not joking when I say this: Two years later, I have no idea what else I got that year except those socks. They're that good.

Product-testing Bombas three to five times a week for the past two years has opened my eyes to the sheer failure of most athletic socks.

Now when I put on a pair of basic white socks, I find myself interrogating the universe: Where is the seamless, ultra-smooth InvisiToe? Where is the honeycomb support system that perfectly hugs my midfoot? Why does my heel feel flat and uncared for, and not supported with a Y-shaped stitch like God intended?

It'd be one thing if Bombas were designed just for weightlifting or running or some other lone physical activity. But the fact it can stay with me when I'm deadlifting, doing burpees, or furiously pedaling the last mile, is what makes me feel comfortable putting the blinders up to other sock manufacturers.

In fact, I have yet to find a movement that produces even the least bit discomfort. So far, Bombas is literally versatile beyond measure.

Bombas isn't for everyone — and by that I mean people who don't need total sock enlightenment. There are plenty of people for whom working out is just something they do for the occasional mood boost, or to feel better about ordering dessert later. What they wear inside their sneakers may matter little.

For the more exercise-obsessed, I implore you to invest the money in the unsung hero: the humble gym sock.

Oh, and for every pair you buy, Bombas donates a pair to people in need. So maybe their socks are a pretty cool Christmas gift after all.
